Online Pension Calculation software for defence pensioners goes online

‘Suvigya’ was is a software developed after great research by the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) to provide exact calculation of pension for various categories of defence pensioners.

Since the canvas of defence pension is very vast with pension varying with each rank, year of release and trade/category, effectively compiling and effectuating the software was an enormous task for CGDA. To complicate matters, orders issued from time to time had resulted in confusing even the pension disbursing authorities in this regard.

The said system is now online and can be accessed through the following link:

Pensioners / family pensioners have to enter basic details on the website for obtaining the correct amount of pension admissible to them under various orders issued from time to time.

There is however a disclaimer on the website that the amount calculated therein cannot be quoted as authority.

  1. Its about Officers and "PBOR". as most of the visitors of this blog claim that there is no category like PBOR, can suggest me some other software which can calculate pensions of JCOs and NCOs. Thanks in advance

  2. This is not working properly. They have not taken the MACP persons who get the grade pay equivlant next rank. For example if a Sgt of Air Force who has put up more than 21 years of service than he is upgraded to PB-2 with a grade pay of 4200. This software is considering all the Sgt in Payband -I only so its not worth for calculating the pensions. One more drawbwck it ask more than 32 years differance in birth date and date of discharge which is not possible to Ac to Sgts/ sep to Hav .

  3. That web page flashes an error message, "Please enter your date of retirement after 1953" even when I enter date of retirement post 2k. Good old bharatiya standard of web site management.

  4. So if there is a mismatch between Suvigya and the actual pension being drawn, what options are available?

  5. There is NO term/word called PBOR any where in ARMY/Navy/Air Force Acts. its illegal and downgrading done to JCOs and equivelent in navy and airforce, deliberately by the babus at MoD and CGDA/PCDA(P). unfortunately till that gets corrected, perforce JCOs/ORs/NCOs have to use PBOR window in suvigya.

  6. The software does not provide for Officers born before 1920 i.e. all who are over 92 years of age .In other case the year of birth could be upwards of 1901 or 1910

  7. This type of software could be the first stepping stone to having a software ready for use whenever the Rank pay payment matter gets settled. And the arrear payment can be done in a jiffy .

  8. sir when HFO are charged the one time collection for ECHS then why they are not given the treatment like officers as same amount are charged from them

  9. The web page flashes an error message, "Please enter your date of retirement after 1953" even when I enter my date of retirement ie 30 June 1996. It is pity that when Indians are managing the Websites world over our Veterans have to struggle with type of trash.

I tried to fill up the required info. However, the rank could not be filled as it does not open. The rest of the info cannot be filled.

  12. A very good beginning that marks the dawn of transparency in computation and dispersal of defence pensions. This will introduce a paradigm shift in the process which could be innocent of the scheming lower level babus. Like in every newly instituted automated system there could be scope for fine tuning which will happen as it begins operation. Those responsible are eagerly waiting for valuable user feedback from everyone including through this forum. Let us be a little more polite, specific and reasonable in bringing out deficiencies. The futile arguments on the term PBOR by an obsessed user(or decoy) who assumed it as his username are absurdly out of sync with the above post and the discussions. “Personnel Below Officer Rank” is plain English that states what it is. The term “officer” is defined precisely in the Acts of the respective services hence one is amused at what this user is labouring to convey.

  14. For Capt(TS) with 33 years of qualifying service and pre-2006 retirement, The software is giving a pension which is Rs 31576/- and at variance with actually disbursed of Rs26050/-. Any suggestions about correctness and how to go about getting it resolved.

  15. I am not too sure what this software does which a few formulae couldn't.
For example Pension= 50% X (Basic+ Grade Pay+ MSP). Could any of the enlightened souls pls comment on "Enhanced Rate applicable upto dd-mmm-yyyy or 7 years whichever is earlier" which I presume should be 67 Years of age. The interface is quite poor and a Dt Of Commissioning / Date of Joining column / Reconable date would have been appropriate to calculate Years Months and Days reckonable. Very poor software - Typical of CGDA. The IAF had much better software on its intraweb over 7 years ago.

  20. Nothing drastically wrong with the software, in general.
The programme runs on Mozilla Firefox browser.
    The CGDA website advises so.
Keep your PPO and all corrigendums by your side and then follow the directions as given in the site.
The site gives the Basic Pension after 01 Jun 2006, as the output.
Thereafter one has to deduct the commutation element, if any, and add the DA as per the current dispensation, which 65%, to arrive at the pre taxed pension.
The software uses the same pension tables which we see in PCDA(P), Allahabad web site. What you get is what you have already seen there.
Individual cases, if special, may have to be tackled separately.

  21. this software was introduced quite a time back and since then it is running with same problems as pointed out in various comments.
i feel it is a good step but it should be correceted and updated.

  22. For Col(TS) pre-2006 with 33 yrs service this program is showing pension as 31576 as on 1/1/2006 whereas pension being drawn is 26050. Can someone pl guide ?

  23. @sathye the meaning of word pbor is very clear but point is mod has misunderstood this word in the sense "u cannot compare army pbor ranks with say air force.a sepoy of army if donot take promotion can serve upto about 22(appx) yrs now if he takes discharge after 15 yrs he is given 10 yrs weightage. but in air foce it is different there is no set no of yrs of service unlike army.it is initial bond and then extention so if a ac taking discharge after 15 yrs of service he is given 10 yrs weightage and a sgt takes discharge after 15 yrs he is given 6 yrs weightage.this is ridiculous and a injustice to senior rank of sgt" mod has issued weightage circular as per above logic to compensate lower rank of sepoy at the cost of air force sgts?? THIS IS WHERE THE WORD PBOR IS NOT ACCEPTABLE IT SHOULD BE THE RANKS AS OR'S.the serving condition differs for army/nvy/air force lower ranks and before giving any fin.benefit they should know the serving condition first. i hope some of the mod guy is listening me.

  35. Its a good effort and if the PPO can also be made online as the PPO which CDA gives on retirement gets faded and unreadable after some time.

    ReplyDelete
  36. @ABHISHEK GOVIL:"...Its a good effort..." There it is! The old, old, self-destructive tendency of people with our service background to be pleased with below par, sub-standard delvery of basics. We eccept and accept standards which even school children would correctly scoff at.

But you have a point, a good one, about the quality of paper on which PPOs are issued. My PPO arrived with most of the text faded, it was probably printed with ink or toner supplied by a pet-contractor of the establishment. The paper is now falling to pieces.

Wasn't my service good enough for the delivery of at least a laminated document? Who's going to teach these self-serving people the value of requisite quality duly deserved by the veterans, for whom these establishments exist, mind you.

How is it a good effort?? Can someone explain the error message seen in the hypothetical example here? https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2nmG6MWJnuzd3J0SmJ4d1pIdlE

  37. Can anyone clarify this?
Is there any difference between the pension for a Lt Col (Time Scale)and Lt Col (Select) for pre 2006 retirees.
There seems to be a table which indicates different pension for each depending on number of years of service.
Is this table (which was an annexure to an MoD letter of 2008) still valid?
Or are all Lt Col who retired before 2006 entitled to a minimum pension of 50% of ( 37400+8000+6000).
    Can anyone help?

    regards
