Air Travel Entitlement for military officers : consolidated orders

One issue that has remained confusing for serving personnel of the defence services is the entitlement of travel by air and all related modalities.

The Defence Accounts Department has uploaded a consolidated list of orders on air entitlement related to travel on temporary duty, permanent move and LTC.

Please do not mail me individual queries on the issue. Questions, if any, may be placed on the comments section of this blogpost so as to have a meaningful discussion.

    1. Isn't it a discrimination against employees serving in J&K. People serving outside the state can travel by pvt airlines to visit J&K but those serving in J&K can not avail this facility.
    2. Is it a welfare to the people serving in J&K?
    3. One can not use pvt airlines for traveling from leh on LTC despite the fact the IA flight runs on three days only.
    4. One cannot use pvt airlines to travel to jammu or Srinagar from Leh or vice-versa on LTC/Duty. But people coming from outside the state can use the services of pvt airlines.
5 One thing is clear from the observations made above that those serving in J&K should vis J&K but oppose serving in J&K.

  3. Last point Free companion ticket - "reimbursement of fare not admissible" -- the point is not understood properly... what does it mean? Can companion travel free?

  4. @rajnams
Officers used to book full fare AI ticket which allows one companion (spouse) free in the same class. This was done while moving on TD, that spouse could essentially travel at govt cost without being entitled.

  5. the latest trend in the army that has started is that COs are insisting that junior offrs travel by train in free warrant on temp duty because the Formation HQs are refusing mov sanctions for travel by air. This is a retrograde trend.. if an offr is being called on temp duty and he is entitled to travel by air.. then he can't be forced.

  6. @ annonymous you don't need mov sanction to travel by air......
    it's your entitlement...

  7. in case of LTC to andaman & nicobar, if an offr is posted in srinagar and his family is in hyderabad then while proceeding to andamans the offr and his family is to travel separately. the offr should be permitted to go to home town and proceed to andamans

  10. I am an IAF officer. My question is that I was recalled from leave due to service emergencies (while on LTC-177B). I had taken a total of 26 days of leave, suffix, prefix 04 days, total 30 days with suffix, prefix. I was recalled within 10 days of leave ie.before half the leave was expended. As per TR-151, i need to have 30 or more days sanctioned to get another to and fro journey sanctioned.Does my 4 days of suffix/prefix act as leave and if on ltc, ca i get my ltc again?Further, my family, traveling with me had to return immediately, so can they get ltc again?

  14. is it possible that a travel agent books a ticket for more price than listed on the air india site for a official travel and the same is honoured by the cda where as the site says the same ticket was booked for a lesser price and the ticket that the agent gives is if a higher price is it acceptable even if the agent is a government approved travel agent
